Camp Play and the Healthy Bodies Camp at the Rockbridge Aquatics Center have joined teams to bring the children a combined yoga and swimming camp with community service, healthy foods, cooperative board games and creative movement too.
This year we plan to cultivate a relationship with the staff and residents at Heritage Hall next door to the "Bubble" pool. Our intention is to help create a pollinator garden for them and to do some crafting together to enhance it.
Identifying our pollinator friends and the alternative sweetener they give us, honey, will be part of this year's camp too. The theme will inspire some of our yoga play as well as some of our healthy snack making! We plan to hear some real stories from a local bee keeper, Becky Tubb, learn about the importance of the pollinators and sample some local honey.
In the hotter days, we plan to retreat indoors with engaging indoor play. Zander Tallman and Paige Gance, owners of 'Just Games' have agreed to lead a group of interested kids in some cooperative board game play. Mauri Connors and Bailey Anderson at the Halestone have offered to lead some exploratory dance lab movement for interested campers followed by some creative journaling led by local psychologist, Katie Masey. These fun activities will happen once/week in addition to our daily swimming and yoga play and will be optional.
Preparing healthy snacks such as smoothies and making our own bread, yogurt and plant based milks will be part of our daily practice.
The indoors and outdoors surrounding the "Bubble" pool will be our stomping ground. We envision nature exploration, cooperative games, and gardening as ways to come together and bond as a camp community. We hope to invite intergenerational friendships, too.
Stay tuned for more!
