YOGA, SWIMMING,HEALTHY FOODS, COOPERATIVE GAMES AND COMMUNITY SERVICE CAMP
Introducing our new collaboration
Camp Play and the Healthy Bodies Camp at the Rockbridge Aquatics Center have joined forces to bring the children a combined yoga and swimming camp with community service, healthy foods, cooperative board gaming and creative movement in addition.
This year we plan to cultivate a relationship with the staff and residents at Heritage Hall next door to the "Bubble" pool. Our intention is to help create a pollinator garden for them and with them. Identifying our pollinator friends and the alternative sweetener they give us, honey, will be part of this year's camp. The theme will inspire some of our yoga play as well as some of our healthy snack making! We hope to hear some real stories too from local bee keepers and sample some of the local honey.
In the hotter days, we plan to retreat indoors with engaging indoor play. Zander Tallman and Paige Gance have agreed to lead a group of interested kids in some cooperative board game play. Mauri Connors and Bailey Anderson at the Halestone have offered to lead some exploratory dance lab movement for interested campers followed by some creative journaling. These fun activities will happen once/week in addition to our daily swim and yoga play and will be optional.
Preparing healthy snacks such as smoothies and making our own bread, yogurt and plant based milks will be part of our daily practice.
The indoors and outdoors surrounding the "Bubble" pool will be our stomping ground. We envision nature exploration, cooperative gaming, and gardening as ways to come together and bond as a camp community. We hope to invite intergenerational friendships, too.
Stay tuned for more!
Safety, respect for self and others, and fun are our goal for the children as we hope to discover the joy of being helpful to one another. The adults working with the children have had background checks to ensure a high level of safety and the directors are First Aid and CPR certified.
