For its second year, the directors of Healthy Bodies at Camp Play, a camp based at the Rockbridge Aquatics Center, aspire to bring swimming, yoga, community service, gardening, healthy foods eating and prep, journaling, and cooperative games to this year's 2020 campers.
For the second year, we also plan to nurture our relationship with the staff and residents at Heritage Hall, a Senior Living Center that is located next door to the "Bubble" pool. Our intention is to maintain the pollinator garden we created for them last year and to do some crafting together to enhance it.
The indoors and outdoors surrounding the "Bubble" pool will be our stomping ground. We envision nature exploration, cooperative games, and gardening as ways to come together and bond as a camp community.
Healthy eating and snack making is also part of our curriculum. We plan to make and freeze smoothies, make our own bread, nut butters and yogurt.
Campers will have their own camp journal with prompts for self awareness practices, and coloring pages that elucidate feelings and needs. We also plan to practice a non-violent communication model we call "the peace path" in order to become aware of our own feelings and needs, and practice making requests to one another.
Stay tuned for more!
